Major Charles Zagonyi, commander of General John C. Fremont’s Body Guard, led his cavalry force in a successful charge against Missouri State Guard forces at Springfield, Missouri, on October 25, 1861. Assisted by Major Frank White’s Prairie Scouts, Zagonyi was able to secure a much needed Union victory after their defeat at Wilson’s Creek on August 10, 1861.
