Lorenzo Sutton of Vermillion, Kansas, enlisted in Company G, 13th Kansas Infantry at Atchison, Kansas, on September 2, 1862; he was mustered in as a private on September 20, 1862. The 13th Kansas Infantry immediately went to Newtonia, Missouri, and fought at the Battle of Newtonia on September 29, 1862, and at Prairie Grove on December 7, 1862. The regiment spent the remainder of the war in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and the Indian Territory on outpost and scout duty.

Sutton mustered out with the regiment on June 26, 1865. He died on January 7, 1931, in Sumner, Illinois.
