Henry Shubert, a cooper and native of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, enlisted as a sergeant in Linn Creek, Camden County, Missouri, in Company K, 29th Missouri Infantry on August 15, 1862; he was appointed commissary sergeant in July 1863. Shubert served as the commissary sergeant until September 23, 1864, when he was promoted to first lieutenant and assigned to Company D. Shubert was mustered out of the service on June 12, 1865, at Washington, D. C.
The 29th Missouri fought at Chickasaw Bayou, Arkansas Post, the siege of Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, through the Atlanta campaign and Sherman’s “March to the Sea,” and at Bentonville.
Shubert died on December 6, 1895, in Minnesota.
