Adolph Schuster enlisted on April 22, 1861, in Company A, 1st Missouri Infantry, and fought at the Battle of Wilson’s Creek.
He enlisted again in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 22, 1861, as a second lieutenant in Company I, 15th Missouri Infantry. On January 15, 1862, he was promoted to first lieutenant and became regimental adjutant on April 17, 1862. On September 4, 1862, Schuster was promoted to captain and company commander. The 15th Missouri Infantry saw action at Pea Ridge, Perryville, Stones River, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin, and Nashville.
Schuster was mustered out of service on November 11, 1864, at Victoria, Texas.
