Stewart Robinson of Rising Sun, Iowa, was 26 years old when he enlisted in the 23rd Iowa Infantry on August 1, 1862; he was mustered into Company C on August 28, 1862. He was wounded on May 17, 1863, at Black River Bridge, Mississippi, during the Vicksburg campaign; after he recovered he returned to his company. Robinson participated in the operations against Mobile, including Fort Blakely, and was mustered out of service on July 26, 1865, at Harrisburg, Texas.
Robinson died on March 30, 1915, in Denver, Colorado.
