Edwin Moore was born in England in 1833; it is not known when he came to the United States. In May 1861 he enlisted in the 16th Illinois Infantry at Colchester, Illinois, as a second lieutenant; in July 1861 he was promoted to first lieutenant.
Following the siege of New Madrid and Island No. 10, Moore mustered into the 21st Missouri Infantry on May 27, 1862 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1864. He mustered out of service on February 11, 1865. The 21st Missouri fought at Iuka, Corinth, through the Red River Campaign, and at Tupelo and Nashville during Moore’s term of service.
Moore committed suicide in 1895.
