This photograph is of 19-year-old Thomas Moody who joined Company F, 11th Missouri State Militia Cavalry at Macon City, Missouri, on March 14, 1862.

The 11th was consolidated with the 2nd Missouri State Militia Cavalry that October. Moody served with the regiment until he was mustered out on March 24, 1865.

The 11th battled Confederate forces in north Missouri; the 2nd served in southeast Missouri and northeast Arkansas, then pursued General Sterling Price during his 1864 raid into Missouri. The regiment returned to southeast Missouri in late 1864 and ended the war there.

Moody died on December 20, 1918, in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
