Jonas Jones from Seneca, Kansas, enlisted on September 2, 1862, and was mustered into Company G, 13th Kansas Infantry on September 20, 1862, at Atchison, Kansas.

The 13th Kansas Infantry was involved in the 1862 battles of Newtonia, Cane Hill, and Prairie Grove, and the 1863 capture of Fort Smith.

Jones mustered out with the regiment on June 26, 1865, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
