Horace Hooker was commissioned a first lieutenant in Bissell’s Engineer Regiment of the West on November 7, 1862, and assigned to Company C, he was mustered in on November 12, 1862.
In February 1864, Bissell’s Regiment and 25th Regiment Missouri Infantry were consolidated to form the 1st Missouri Engineers.
The engineers were involved in repairing railroads and building roads and pontoon bridges during the war. On October 31, 1864, excess (or supernumerary) officers and soldiers were mustered out of the regiment; Hooker was mustered out on that date.
Hooker died in Rochester, New York, on August 25, 1914.
