Wyatt Harris enlisted in Company I, 24th Missouri Infantry as a corporal on August 5, 1861, at Marshfield, Missouri. He was promoted to first sergeant on November 1, 1861, to second lieutenant on January 1, 1862, and to captain on February 19, 1863. While serving on detached duty as assistant provost marshal at Union City, Tennessee, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war until his parole on March 1, 1865, at North East Ferry, North Carolina.
Harris was mustered out of the service at St. Louis, Missouri. He died in McMinnville, Oregon, on March 13, 1911.
