Jeremy Hall enlisted on July 6, 1861, at Adair County, Missouri, as a private in the 1st Northeast Missouri Home Guard Infantry, and was promoted to sergeant that October. In February 1862 the 1st and 2nd Northeast Missouri Regiments were consolidated to form the 21st Missouri Infantry, and Hall became a member of the new regiment’s Company B; he was promoted to second lieutenant on May 20, 1862.

The 21st Missouri Infantry saw action at Shiloh, Iuka, Corinth, Pleasant Hill, Tupelo, Nashville, and Fort Blakely.

Hall mustered out of the service on December 6, 1864, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
