John Grigsby, Soloman Bartlett, and W. M. Caston in uniform.

John Grigsby (center) was mustered in as captain of Company I, 48th Missouri Infantry, on November 7, 1864, at Rolla, Missouri for the period of one year. He was mustered out of service on June 29, 1865, at Benton Barracks (St. Louis), Missouri. The 48th Missouri Infantry was organized at Waynesville, Missouri, on July 28, 1864, served at Rolla, Missouri, then moved to garrison blockhouses on the Tennessee and Alabama Railroad. In February 1865 the 48th was sent to Camp Douglas in Chicago to guard Confederate prisoners and escort them to City Point, Virginia to be exchanged.

Grigsby died on March 24, 1918, in Skidmore, Missouri.
