Charles Goodier of Burlingame, Kansas, enlisted on May 14, 1861, and mustered into service on June 20, 1861, as a private in Company I, 2nd Kansas Infantry, at Lawrence, Kansas, for a period of three months. Goodier and the 2nd Kansas fought at the Battle of Wilson’s Creek on August 10, 1861, then mustered out of service on October 31, 1861.
Goodier re-enlisted in the 11th Kansas Cavalry on July 22, 1863, and mustered into Company I the following month at Kansas City, Kansas. In September 1864 Goodier was promoted to first lieutenant and assigned as commander of Company F, 18th U. S. Colored Infantry. The 18th participated in the Battle of Nashville that December, then pursued Confederate General John Bell Hood’s Army of the Tennessee.
Goodier mustered out with that regiment on February 21, 1866.
