Harrison Gleim enlisted in Company G, 2nd Michigan Cavalry on January 8, 1862, as a private; on January 21, 1862, he was detached and assigned as a clerk to General Schuyler Hamilton. On March 12, 1862, Gleim was promoted to first lieutenant of Company C, 2nd Missouri Light Artillery, and was detached on October 14, 1862, as aide-de-camp to Colonel Lewis Merrill of the 2nd Missouri Cavalry (Merrill’s Horse). On August 4, 1864, he was transferred back to Company C, 2nd Missouri Light Artillery and mustered out of service on January 23, 1865.
