William Eisermann enlisted as a first sergeant in Company K, 15th Missouri Infantry, on September 14, 1861; he was promoted to second lieutenant on January 1, 1863, and assigned to Company B. Eisermann was promoted to first lieutenant on February 24, 1864, and was wounded on November 29, 1864, at the Battle of Spring Hill, Tennessee. On February 22, 1865, he was promoted to captain and assumed command of Company B.
The 15th Missouri Infantry saw considerable action during the war, including the battles of Pea Ridge, Perryville, Stones River, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Kennesaw Mountain, Spring Hill, Franklin, and Nashville.
Eisermann and the regiment mustered out of the service on December 25, 1865, at Victoria, Texas.
