George Drew was one of four brothers from Burlingame, Kansas, who enlisted in the 11th Kansas Infantry on September 1, 1862; they were all mustered into Company I on September 15, 1862. George was wounded at the Battle of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, on December 7, 1862. In April 1863 the regiment was converted to the 11th Kansas Cavalry.

On June 20, 1864, George was promoted to first lieutenant and assigned to Company B, 18th U. S. Colored Infantry. Promoted to captain on June 26, 1865, he commanded Company D until the regiment was mustered out of service on February 21, 1866.

George Drew died on February 10, 1905.
