Thomas Draper enlisted in Company G, 18th Missouri Infantry, on July 8, 1861; he was mustered into service as a private on November 14, 1861, and was promoted to corporal on June 16, 1865.

The 18th Missouri Infantry fought in numerous battles, including Shiloh, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta, and Jonesboro, and participated in Sherman’s “March to the Sea” and the Carolinas campaign.

Draper was mustered out with the regiment in July 1865.
