Although the soldier in this photo cannot be positively identified, he is likely John Durnil of the 14th Missouri State Militia Cavalry. Durnil enlisted in Company A, 14th MSM Cavalry in January 1862, and was seriously wounded in a skirmish at Forsyth on August 4, 1862. He died of his wounds in Mount Vernon on August 19.
