John Marcoot was commissioned an assistant surgeon on February 21, 1865, at St. Louis, Missouri, and was mustered into the 52nd Missouri Infantry on February 27, 1865. On June 2, 1865, the 51st, 52nd, 54th and 55th Missouri Infantry Regiments were consolidated and the new regiment was designated the 51st Missouri Infantry. The regiment stayed on garrison duty in St. Louis until it was mustered out on August 31, 1865, at Benton Barracks; Marcoot was mustered out on the same date.
