Eugene Fisher enlisted with his brother John A. Fisher in Company D, 23rd Missouri Infantry, on August 24, 1861, in Eagleville, Missouri. The 23rd Missouri Infantry was engaged in the Battle of Shiloh on April 6, 1862, where Eugene and his brother were both captured and held as prisoners of war. Eugene was paroled on May 28, 1862, and returned to Benton Barracks. He continued to serve with the regiment until his discharge on July 18, 1865.
He died in Florence, Kansas, on June 29, 1921.
