Hulse, Richard M.

Richard Hulse mustered into the 11th Missouri State Militia Cavalry on November 1, 1862, as a first lieutenant, and was assigned the duties of adjutant. When the 11th and 2nd Missouri State Militia Cavalry Regiments were consolidated on December 31, 1862, Hulse was promoted to captain and assumed command of Company H. On April 21, 1863, Hulse was captured at Chalk Bluff; he was paroled on August 18, 1863, at Little Rock and returned to his regiment.

The 2nd Missouri State Militia Cavalry was involved in the pursuit of Sterling Price during his raid into Missouri in 1864; they engaged him at the Little Blue River, Independence, Big Blue River, Westport, Marmiton River, and Mine Creek.

Hulse mustered out of service on March 7, 1865.
