17th Missouri Infantry Broadside

A wartime broadside dedicated “To the Memory of the Killed & Wounded of the 17th Regiment Missouri Volunteer Infantry.”

This wartime broadside designed by Lieutenant Rob J. Fischer, at Camp Sherman, Mississippi, during July or August 1863, was dedicated “To the Memory of the Killed & Wounded of the 17th Reg. Mo. Vol. Inf.” The broadside lists the battles in which the regiment took part, and those killed and wounded in action. The regiment was organized by order of Major General John C. Fremont in August 1861 and commanded by Colonel Francis Hassendeubel, who died of wounds received at the siege of Vicksburg. The regiment was mustered out during the months of September and October 1864.
